"I like it when you hold my hand. I like it when you let me help. (...)" This wonderful little book very skillfully shows a parent penguin and its baby sharing favourite moments. Beginning fairly actively, playing, dancing and eating, it leads children through pre-bedtime routines, sharing a favourite story, hugging as they walk up the stairs, splashing in the bath, and finally as the bed clothes get tucked in, kisses are exchanged and the parent penguin says "I love you!". Baby penguin replies, "I love you too!". The brightly coloured backgrounds with simple black and white, yellow tummied penguins bring this book close to many children's hearts. The parent penguin could be either mummy or daddy, or even a grandparent! Children immediately want to share what they like doing with their carers and soon realize that they can have fun drawing them too! A class book is the perfect final product, in a celebration of how great it is to love someone and do things together.
