This is a story which is told in several chapters over 62 pages. It could easily be a story you might want to read to the whole class as a staged class story. It could be linked to themes on fairs and rides, emotions or helping people out. The story is about a boy, Jake, who manages to get his sister and her boyfriend to take him to a fair that has come to town. they go off on the 'Tunnel of Love' ride while Jake goes on the Ghost train and finds a little ghost who isn't very scary. The rest of the story tells how Jake takes the ghost on lots of rides and then how, eventually, he helps him become really scary, ghostlike and happy. It would lend itself to a theme on helping each other or on jobs in a fairground as these all appear in the story. The story is told in simple language with charming illustrations which support language understanding.
